Project Story: A Standing Seam Trim and Flashing Package for a Reno Roof

A roofing contractor installing a standing seam roof on a Reno home ordered the panels through us, but the part of the job that filled our brake schedule for two days was everything around the panels: the eave trim, rake trim, ridge, valleys, sidewall and headwall flashings, and a chimney cap fabricated to match. On a metal roof, the trim package is where roofs succeed or leak, and almost none of it comes stock.

Why the Trim Is Custom

Every roof has its own pitch, overhang, and wall conditions, so trim profiles that fit one house will not fit the next. We fabricated this package from the contractor's measurements in 24-gauge steel with the same Kynar paint finish as the panels, so every visible edge of the roof matches in color and gloss.

Long runs were formed as continuous pieces wherever shipping allowed, which means fewer laps on the roof and fewer places for wind-driven rain and snowmelt to find a way in. That matters in Reno, where storms come in sideways off the Sierra.

Fabrication

Each profile was drawn, approved by the contractor, then formed on our brake and stacked in labeled bundles by roof plane.

The chimney got a standing seam cap fabricated in the same material, so the top of the chimney reads as part of the roof instead of an afterthought.

The Payoff

The contractor's crew installed the whole package without a single field-modified piece, and the finished roof has clean, consistent lines from ridge to eave. That is what a shop-fabricated trim package buys you.
