Custom Metal Railings & Gates

Railings and gates should be strong, clean, and designed to fit the architecture — not pulled off a shelf. We fabricate custom railings and gates from steel, stainless steel, and other metals for stairs, decks, balconies, and entryways across Northern Nevada.

What We Build

Every railing and gate we build is designed to meet building codes, match the architecture, and hold up in real conditions. We work from your drawings, photos, or field measurements to fabricate railings that fit right the first time. From modern cable rail systems to solid steel balcony guards, we handle the full fabrication process in our Reno shop. Gates are built to operate smoothly and withstand daily use — whether it's a garden gate or a full driveway entry system.

How We Build It

Railing and gate projects start with field measurements or construction drawings. We need to know the run length, height, rise and run of stairs (if applicable), and any code requirements specific to your jurisdiction. We draft shop drawings showing post locations, rail profiles, infill type, and connection details. After approval, we fabricate all components in our shop — cutting, welding, grinding, and finishing to spec. Posts are drilled and prepped for core-mount, surface-mount, or fascia-mount installation depending on your structure. We coordinate with your installer on anchor bolt placement and final adjustment.

Material Options & Selection

Mild steel is the most common railing material — strong, affordable, and available in a range of finishes from raw patina to powder coat. Stainless steel is preferred for exterior applications where corrosion resistance is critical, especially in Tahoe and Truckee where salt exposure from winter road treatment is common. We also fabricate in aluminum for lightweight applications. Cable rail infill uses marine-grade stainless cable and fittings. Finish options include powder coat in any RAL color, clear coat over raw steel, blackened patina, or brushed and passivated stainless.

Frequently Asked Questions

What railing height is required by code?

Residential deck railings typically require 36 inches minimum height, while commercial and multi-family applications require 42 inches. Stair railings have specific graspability requirements. We design all railings to meet or exceed local building codes.

Can you build cable railings?

Yes. We fabricate cable rail systems using marine-grade stainless steel cable with stainless or steel posts. Cable spacing must meet code requirements for infill — typically no more than 4 inches between cables for residential applications.

Do you install railings?

We focus on fabrication. We coordinate with your contractor or installer and provide all mounting hardware, shop drawings, and installation notes. Our fabrication is precise enough that most installs go smoothly without field modifications.

How long do custom railings take?

Standard railing projects take 2 to 4 weeks from measurement to delivery, depending on complexity and finish requirements. Gates may take slightly longer due to hardware coordination.

What finishes are available for exterior railings?

Powder coating is the most durable exterior finish, available in hundreds of colors. Hot-dip galvanizing provides maximum corrosion protection for harsh environments. Clear-coated raw steel is an option but requires periodic maintenance in exterior applications.
